Congressional Quarterly Launches CQ Legislative Impact with MarkLogic Server

Integrates 30+ Content Sources While Providing Unique Insight into U.S. Legislative Activity

SAN MATEO, CA — August 17, 2006 — Mark Logic® Corporation, provider of the industry’s leading XML content platform, today announced that Congressional Quarterly Inc. has deployed MarkLogic Server for its recently launched CQ Legislative Impact product, the newest addition to its flagship CQ.com Legislative Tracking Service. By integrating XML content from more than 30 sources, including the newly added Public Laws database and the entire U.S. Code, CQ Legislative Impact lets subscribers see the specific impact of pending or passed legislation on existing laws. For example, subscribers are able to track how the recently passed Pension Protection Act of 2006 (HR4, August 3, 2006) has impacted 21 different federal laws with up to 174 changes to each law. This process, which used to take several days, can now be completed in minutes.

“CQ Legislative Impact was designed to enhance the productivity of legislative affairs offices, Capitol Hill staffers, law librarians, lobbyists — anyone with a professional interest in the law or legislative process,“ said Larry Tunks, chief information officer at Congressional Quarterly. ”We have long used traditional search engine and database technology, but only MarkLogic Server gave us the solution to track and display the intricate relationships between legislation and existing laws.”

MarkLogic Server helps providers of information products by enabling them to integrate content from different sources, repurpose content for multiple uses, deliver content through multiple channels, and more effectively mine content to find previously undiscovered information. With the industry’s most powerful implementation of the W3C–standard XQuery language, MarkLogic Server enables customers to build powerful applications that load, query, manipulate, and render content. Designed for enterprise–class high performance and scalability, MarkLogic Server can deliver millisecond response times against multi–terabyte contentbases. Publishers such as COngressional Quarterly are turning to MarkLogic Server to help implement new competitive strategies on a single infrastructure and dramatically reduce time to market and costs for new product offerings.

“Information providers are discovering that search engines are not enough to meet the needs of today’s demanding information consumers,” said David Spenhoff, vice president of marketing for Mark Logic Corporation. “MarkLogic Server enables publishers to dig deep inside their content and create highly targeted information products. We are pleased to have been selected by Congressional Quarterly to help them continue their long tradition as an authoritative information resource for the legislative process.”
